Developer (The Big Know)

Launched out of GoKart Labs in 2014, The Big Know is globally recognized as a learning technology leader because of our intuitive learning platform and high-end content production. We create world-class online courses for leading companies like UnitedHealthcare, P&G and Optum. In 2018 we launched Being, a Netflix-inspired course series where best-selling authors, celebrities and industry experts teach employee wellbeing.


Why This Job Is Important

The role will be integral to impacting people's lives for the better by working on The Big Know’s product Being.  “Being” our core product is a Ruby on Rails SaaS based platform that drives employee engagement with their organizations as well as educating people on key concepts that are meant to drive personal engagement with health and wellness.


What You Will Be Doing

  • Working in conjunction with the Product Design team to define and implement best in class online learning activities and experience.
  • Ability to creatively understand how to build the Front End experience for the SaaS product.
  • Ability to thoughtfully understand the full stack implications of features being built.
  • Working in close contact with the Application Architect to ideate, discuss, and identify patterns which will ensure optimal development strategy for features.
  • Shift seamlessly between a creative and a technical focus depending on current need and / or circumstance each day.
  • Establish presentation layer requirements and standards - you will be expected to share your opinions and ideas.
  • Rapidly produce interim deliverables such as style guide components, technical specifications, prototypes, proofs of concept, etc., in addition to final live site or application.
  • Participate in scoping and planning work.
  • Participate in documentation.
  • Focus on designing and implementing features with a focus on accessibility and compliance with assistive technologies.
  • Practice secure coding techniques to ensure our customers data is safe
  • Take initiative to research and learn emerging technologies.
  • Review colleagues work product to ensure code produced by others works well with established patterns.
  • Continuously help to improve other members of the team by helping out when needed, as well as challenging yourself to grow by asking for help when needed.
